When I sit back and consider the significant events in my past, the important aspects of my current life, and my future goals, the underlying theme is one of appreciating diversity. My name is Janine Casquio Valeroso. I am the eldest among the five children of Lorenzo and Jennifer Valeroso. I have 3 younger brothers and a younger sister. I was born in Laguna and grew up in Pampanga. I took my pre-elementary in Pampanga and as a student I did pretty good, being an honor student that time was a privilege both for my parents and our relatives, they always say that I got my brain from my father, well I couldn’t agree more. Of course being the only child at that time considering my gender plus the flying colors that I got, I pretty much get all the things I need and all the things that I want. It almost feels like am the princess of our family. The time when I was just a child we don’t consider ourselves as rich people, but we never experience poverty. My dad work as one of the senior officer of this big company in Laguna, and my mom is a housewife. Being in a small family for me is enough, though I don’t mind having other siblings. So when the year came for me to enter elementary my first brother was born, well at first I was like jealous and at the same time happy. Having a brother is like having a friend the only difference is when you fight it don’t last long because your parents will always do everything to fix the problem, so there I was having my elementary years, I did pretty good with my studies I met different people and tougher competition as well, it was a hard years for me but still I was able to take home some medals. Graduating in elementary is a good call for me to continue my high school life in Pampanga. All my friends are there, classmates and good teachers. But that didn’t last long, after having my first two years as a high school student in Pampanga. My father decided to move in Laguna, Knowingly that it also means that I have to continue my studies there. It was hard for me, because I had my life in Pampanga. Classmates, friends and neighbors letting them go is hard for me, but as time goes by being in a Laguna wasn’t a bad Idea at all. You get to meet new faces with different language. New neighbors and friends not to mention classmates, so there I was having my third year in high school, it was fun for me, I never had problems being in Laguna until that day came. When I was about to finish my third year high school, something unexpected happened. The company where my father work had a big scandal, my father didn’t tell us the real issue about it, he just told us that the people inside that company are having a big misunderstanding. It didn’t actually stop there, some employees formed a union and the worst part it my father was accused as one of the promoter of the said union, sadly my father got fired, it was a bad news for all of us. Staying in Laguna is no longer necessary if you’re not earning anything, that was my father said, so all of us decided to go back in Pampanga. I thought going back to the place where I was raised, where all my friends and old classmates will make me happy, I was wrong. It was terrible I stopped going to school, my father is jobless because of his age, and company will no longer accept him. And most of all we don’t have any money. That was harsh for me and my family, until the day that I decided to work for the sake of my family. Me and my parents decided that if am going to work it will be better if I work in Manila. Because we have relatives there that can surely help me, so I immediately pack my things to find my luck in Manila. I stayed in my uncles place, its also a good thing that my uncle is residing in a place were a small canteen operates, he decided that instead of finding a job why don’t I worked there, at least I don’t have to worry about the food and the shelter. That year was tough but I was able to get through it. Every month I send some money for my family enough to feed them all and buy important things that they need. Luck was on my side, my uncle offered me to take my last high school year in Manila with the condition that I have to help out at the canteen in that way he can provide all the things that I need in school. Of course I said yes, I don’t want to be just another girl who didn’t even finish high school. After finishing high school I decided not to enter college for the reason that I have to save up some money first, because college is not a joke , I know how hard and expensive college is, so I decided to work again for another year, Things are going great that time, I was working hard and saving money because I was excited to be in college, until the bad news came, after arriving in our yearly outing that is being held every April, I received a text from my brother that my father was rush at the hospital because one of his major vein explode and now in a comma. So I rush my way to Pampanga. As I walk at the stair of the hospital my feet were so heavy, I was just walking but I can barely breath, and as I opened the door I see my father lying in the bed, I feel tremble on my knees, I cried when I saw him, seeing him with oxygen on his face not moving makes me so weak, I ask my self why does this have to happen, my father was a great man, he worked hard for all us, he never failed as a father for all of us. As the doctor approach us I sense a bad news about the condition of my dad, and I was right, the doctor said that there is a very low chance of my father’s survival. That news shattered us all, it was a decision that we have to make immediately, we don’t have enough money to pay for the hospital, sadly we have decided to end my father’s suffering, in my heart I know that’s what he wants, he has done his part, resting was just the last thing he can do. After removing the oxygen, flat line. Loosing someone very important to you is heart shattering. Those is what I felt, that also made me strong and think wisely about life, I decided to continue my studies as a college student. Currently I’m a freshmen student studying at Polytechnic University of the Philippines taking up Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Finishing my studies is my next goal. Giving my family a good life is my dream. Life is cruel and unfair, but you decide weather you take it negatively or positively. One’s end means start of new beginning. Bury all the sorrows dig up all the hopes, you only throw the things you don’t need. This is my life.
